Q8 Looking back at your premliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Comparing what we done in the Prelim I feel that myself and my group members have come a long way. I say this because some of the shots in the Prelim were good but not as good as what we've achieved in the final product.

The equipment that got given to us was basic but we had to make do with that we had seen as our film had no budget whatsoever so that was a bit of a struggle.

The equipment that got given to us was; Lighting kit, tripod and a camera.

I feel that the equipment that got given to us was of a basic stanard. The mis en scene of 'The Headteacher' was meant to be in a office but that didn't work out for some odd reason so it ended up being in the canteen. Unfortunately the character kept on looking into the camera when he should of been looking at the other character so it was not realistic at all. Also the camera movement of the prelim didn't seem to flow very week and that was another set back we had. Whilst ending the prelim we started to notice that not only our thriller did not look like a thriller but it seemed to of started to look like a comedy/spoof. One member of the group and I were discussing this situation and I thought to myself that 'If we struggled on the prelim, we are definitely doing to struggle on the real thing' and we did.

It was very difficult to communicate with some members of the group because everyone had ideas and wanted their ideas to be used in our final cut so it was rather annoying people talking over each other to get a point across. I feel we have made a huge improvement from our prelim to our final cut because the mis en scene of the final cut was on point and that the darkness of the mis en scene fitted in well with the whole theme of the film.

I feel that the digital technology which I have used in making this was improved on immensely as I didn't really think making a opening sequence was going to be hard but you literally have to consider everything and thats what makes it so difficult.

The production scedule and I encounted was rather good because myself and my group members decided to film in the one week holidays to get it out the way and when we come back to college all we will have left to do is to upload it onto our hardrive and edit it. We decided to do this because from our prelim we thought that we'd struggle and be behind so we just thought to ourselves to just get it out the way.

Q6 Audience feedback and comment (Part2)

I decided to use my initiative and post it on facebook seen as our target audience is 17 - 21 years old. I thought posting it on Facebook would also help to get honest opinions on whether or not my Thriller sequence was successful or not. Also, I'd get different peoples perspectives on things that could of been improved on and so on. With posting it on Facebook, it would also help me publicise the sequence a little. I feel that if I was to officially post a sequence of this, I would do the following.

- Create a page

- Put it under the catoregy 'Entertainment'

- Then invite people to join.

There were a lot of different similarities and differences when doing this thriller opening. Some similarities were the titles as they looked very similar to Se7en's titles and there were a lot of differences like for example;

The extreme close up of the man slicing his fingers is rather gruesome.

On the other hand, our take on trying to immitate this didn't work so well as it was not an extreme close up, if it was an extreme close up then maybe it may have looked disgusting in a good way.

Q1) In what ways your Media Product use, developer challenge forms and conventions of Real Media Products?

In our film we were mainly inspired by the film 'Se7en' as you could tell with some of the extreme/close up shots that we included in our sequence. 

We decided to use a discrete title sequence as it is similar to 'Se7en's title sequence and use more or less effects with the font, with the etched out/scratchy look to it.  

One of our main priorities was to capture the whole 'scribbling out the picture' scene as in Se7en it seemed to be the main bit in the sequence. Our take on Se7en's version wasn't as successful in making it as 

creepy as in Se7en but we more or less still got the view of 'What a weirdo!' It gave us the audience a view of this guy being a lunatic and an absolute crazy person. Which was the whole point of capturing this. 

One criticism we got was that the comparison we done with the messy handwriting in the title sequence did not really go with how the characters handwriting so I feel that if 

the characters handwriting was how it looked in the title sequence then that would have made a slightly better comparison and would of reflected upon the titles and how they look.

The extreme close up of the book was highly effective because we captured this in a clever way. The lighting played a very good part in exposing all what 

is on the book and nothing else and the background pitch black. Also when watching the film you can see dust particles 

in the air so this is very effective. 

Photographs were the main priority in Se7en's film so myself and my group members thought that it would be best to feature this in our sequence and to make it the main part of it. 

Using intertextuality references from Se7en really inspired me and my other group members to create this weird and creepy thriller and it has really taught me to think outside the box in order for us to create a sequence like this.

The Narration

THE NARRATION

Whilst filming a couple of weeks ago. We decided to create an audio of the male character and his ex girlfriend having a conversation and putting that onto our sequence. We wanted it to sound rather distorted like he was thinking about it in his head. An echoed type of audio sound. We went onto Soundtrack Pro and uploaded the audio and we were just playing around with distorting the sound. Some of which were very high and very low and deep. We wanted to put a sort of distance kind of echo on the conversation so it would seem that he is thinking it in his head. When we was playing and toddling with Soundtrack Pro we stumbled upon something. It distorted how each character spoke and how we wanted it was exactly what we got.

We've nearly finished our sequence and I'm feeling rather excited. It seems to be coming together and after practising on "The Headteacher" and "The Newspaper" it is very clear that all that preparation was good and we needed it. All that is left to do is to add more sound effects to put on top of the track.

Well seen as my group and I were getting on with editing and so on I decided to use my initiative and ask what people thought of my groups thriller sequence. I asked twenty people of which were different ages. Varying from the age sixteen (Which was our target audience) up to twenty-five. I was rather suprised with some of the feedback that was given to be quite honest. Most people actually liked it and I was presently suprised.

Using LiveType to create our titles we decided to use a variety of different types of effects on our sequence. We were going to use all the effects that were on the first title, on all our titles for the rest of the sequence but our teacher said that "Perhaps using all of those effects isn't going to look as good, its definitely too much, it looks tacky.." I could understand were she was coming from, however I actually did like it how it was. It looked like it was having an epiletic fit. It looked really nice. But we went with our teachers advice and cut out some of the five effects we had on our titles. When looking at it, it lookes very plain and like I said I do prefer our first title that we done but sometimes in life we have to "Take a little to get a lot" I do like our titles though because they do some what resemble Se7en and it looks very professional in my eyes.

Our intended idea for creating the sound was to add sound effects on top of the bass droom that we have included in our title sequence.

Our make intention was to get a very specific sound like a screeching noise on top of the soundtrack and get other creepy sounds like, scrapping noise or something like that. Something to make you shivver because the sound gets to you sort of thing.

The sound in Se7en is very disturbing and actually listening to it gives me the creeps, it actually makes me shivver with disgust because its just so disgustingly great. The sound of the sequence makes me not want to watch it but on the other hand I do want to watch it and see what is going to happen!

EDITING DAY TWO

Myself and my group members came together to get some of the needed shots and we recorded it in the mean while. We eventually done it and we uploaded it to our rough cut of our sequence. Whilst we were trying to resemble Se7en's crazy yet sophisticated open sequence it was clear that our one was no were near it. For each shot there was around 40 clips for that one scene and we didn't have enough. So we had to work with what we had. To be honest I think what we had was really good. The lighting was great and it looked, in my eyes, professional.

Drawing to the Rough Cut deadline my group and I decided to add a title of our film "Addicted" to our opening sequence so that the audience could get a feel for our film and what was expected. We started working on our title in LiveType and it was obvious that the titles that were used in Se7en is something that we wanted or something very similiar. Therefore we were looking and we found something in the style of Se7en. It was very jumpy and it goes with the whole feel of our film which is jumpy.

We found a sound track which would be PERFECT for our film. HORAYYY ! :D

Editing today was rather layed back. We got our clips from the memory card and imported it onto our video hardrive and opened Final Cut Pro and began to work on it.

We decided to put all the clips in order because firstly, its common sense and secondly, it would help us and not make it confusing for us.

Actually editing our film seemed harder than what it seemed. As we wanted our title sequence to resemble 'Se7en' it came to my teachers attention that we didn't seem to have enough shots as her word were 'This looks nothing like Se7en there aren't many extreme close ups and thats what Se7en is all about' My group and I thought to ourselves that we do want it like Se7en so we arranged to meet up after college hours and get the extreme close ups we needed in order to get the best possible film.

Apart from that though, we eventually edited it and now we just need a sound track to go with it. I was thinking about using a bass type of soundtrack as it would create a spooky yet mysterious atmosphere. If, when using that sound track it does create a specific atmosphere at least it could make our thriller sequence a whole lot better.

Filming on the second day went rather well, even though we still had some problems. The good points of the second filming day is that we got all the filming done and we were happy about that. But the equipment provided let me down a bit. The lighting kit at first was very good, I mean, it was bright and bold but after five minutes or so it got really dull. So there was different tones of lighting whilst watching back what we recorded which was quite worrying if our audience would notice that or not.

Another problem that me and my group came across is that the Mis En Scene that we chose which was Ryans living room, I didn't have a clue that there was a mirror in there so we thought that we should incorprate using the mirror to give off a reflection to make it seem very mysterious and capture it on camera without actually seeing the camera. At first it was hard to film it as you could see the reflexion of the camera in the mirror. So I had to but the camera at a certain angle as I couldn't put it straight on because of the reflexion.

Another thing which was quite difficult to deal with is the actor of the title sequence. I asked him to be serious in doing something and it just wasn't acceptable as it didn't look believable and one thing I didn't want to repeat for sure is doing a comedy/spoof version of a thriller as done previously in our practise filming before. So I asked the actor to look believable and to be serious about it and he did.

Filming a title sequence is really nerve-racking as you don't know what the final clip will look like. I really do feel for professional camera people as the pressure that I felt whilst filming was probably an ounce to how profession camera people face everyday in their working life. But I suppose they know what their letting themselves.

To be honest, filming a title sequence was enjoyable but I feel that the editing part of our sequence will be better and more fun. Hopefully anyways!

Over the half term holidays me and my fellow group members decided to get the filming done instead of filming our opening sequence when we come back from half term. As the filming location was at Ryans house we really needed to get it done and dusted.

We started setting up the equipment and as I was the camera woman I had to set up the camera, tripod alongside the lighting equipment. I had quite a few problems with the space as it was very limited, the tripod didn't fit in such a small space. It wasn't THAT small but it was quite small. Also, as there was a mirror in Ryans living room it was very difficult to maneuver as we didn't want the camera to show in the reflection as we were
